Maruti Suzuki, to rival the Hyundai Santro launched the WagonR in the year 1999.In 2019 it completes 20 years in the Indian Automotive industry with the benchmark of selling over 24 lakhs of the WagonR in three generations with 4 facelifts.

In 2014, MS announced that WagonR has completed 15 lakhs salesmark and in 2019 it completes 24 lakh units. The WagonR has been one of the popular hatch both in India and Nepal.

The third generation of the Wa3was launched in Jan 23, 2019 with a new platform, new engine option, new interiors including a smart play studio that debut from WagonR which was supported by the tagline #DilSeStrong. The boot was increased from 175 litres to 351 litres. The steering gets tilt option with 60:40 rear split seats. This new WagonR was designed to well compete with the new generation of the Santro and Tiago and to make a stronger place between it’s own siblings the Celerio and Swift.
